There are 2 scenic byways to choose from when making your way from Roseburg Oregon to the Oregon Coast, Highway 38 and Highway 42.

Highway 38 follows the beautiful main Umpqua River and is my favorite way to go to the coast. Highway 38 goes through Sutherlin and is roughly a 75 mile drive to Reedsport Oregon and Winchester Bay area for about an 1.5 hour drive. You’ll also pass through the small town of Elkton, and the awesome Elk viewing area which is the year-round residence for a herd of Roosevelt elk and is always a worthwhile stop. 🔭

Winchester Bay is known for being a great place to bring your ATVs and recreational vehicles for riding on the dunes, and there are a handful of ATV rental companies to choose from. If you are planning on visiting Newport, Lincoln City, and the more Northern Oregon coastal towns Highway 38 is a great route to take for the scenic Oregon experience. ⛱️

Highway 42 follows the Coquille River and is around 80 miles to the Coos Bay or Bandon area and about a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive. Coos Bay is home to my favorite state park, Shore Acres, which is a fun place to visit year round for the beautiful flowers and landscaping, hiking trails, storm watching, or holiday lights. Cape Arago State Park is in Coos Bay as well, the Coos Bay Boardwalk, Oregon Coast Historical Railway and Three Rivers Casino. 🎰

The closest and best Oregon Ocean beaches would be Bastendorff Beach in the Charleston Coos Bay area and the Bandon beaches. Both are great places to walk the Oregon beach. 🎣

Bandon is a must on your Southern Oregon Coast list of places to visit. With the charming old town and plenty of shops to explore. Bandon Oregon is home to 6 golf courses, several of which are nationally recognized for being the best on the west coast. Don’t forget to check out Face Rock Creamery, and the annual cranberry festival making Bandon the crowned Cranberry Capital of Oregon with over 30 million pounds of cranberries coming out of Bandon annually, or the Bandon Game Park for close up encounters with exotic wildlife. 🐯

Being close to the ocean is just one of many benefits of living here in Roseburg Oregon area, Douglas County, and Southern Oregon.
