Hey guys! Anthony Beckham here, a lifelong resident of Roseburg Oregon, and today we’re going to be talking about what to expect from the year-round weather forecast in Roseburg.
The one thing I can guarantee is that the weather here is always a surprise! For those of you considering moving here or stopping in for a visit, Roseburg is a small-city paradise of the Pacific Northwest known for its temperate climate and mild weather. And If you’re looking for a reliable guide for what to expect from the weather in Roseburg Oregon during all four seasons… You’ve come to the right place!
☃️ What Are Winters Like In Roseburg Oregon?
It only seems appropriate to start with Roseburg Oregon winters given that at the time of making this video, we are only a handful of days from the New Year. And right now we are in a bit of a cold snap!
In the winter months from November to February, temperatures can range from lows of 25-30 degrees Fahrenheit at night and highs around 50 degrees during the day.
Of course, this means that it can get chilly during winter months. So if you’re planning on moving here, make sure your wardrobe is ready for some layering!
❄️ Does It Snow In Roseburg Oregon?
If snow is what you want, unfortunately, you won’t find much in Roseburg! Snowfall is rare but can be expected occasionally if there are cold enough temperatures. Typically when there is snow in the Umpqua Valley it’s there when you wake up and is about gone by the afternoon. It’s rare to have any kind of accumulation of snow to stick around for more than 24 hours.
Luckily during the winter season, you’ll notice snow on all the mountaintops that border the valley. Not only is this beautiful, but it means if you want a snowy experience of getting your own Christmas tree, sledding, and snowball fights, you’re usually no more than an hour’s drive away from snow! So you can still have winter fun without having to shovel your driveway or having frozen roads on your way to work.
🌷 Spring Weather In Roseburg Oregon
Spring in Roseburg is beautiful! From March through June, we get to enjoy the spring season in Roseburg Oregon when temperatures gradually start warming up and rain becomes more frequent. Average low temperatures hover around 40 degrees and highs can reach the mid-70s.
This time of year sees more rain than summer, so if you’re visiting during spring make sure to bring a nice rain jacket! Because for some reason, people in the PNW don’t use umbrellas! With Spring comes longer days and more sunshine, making it a great time to get out and explore what Roseburg has to offer!
Everything is green, the flowers are blooming with vibrant colors and fragrances, and the Umpqua Valley’s more than 30 wineries are beautiful this time of year! This is also the time of year that the Umpqua National forest waterfalls are at their most impressive with the extra rainfall and you’ll see plenty of wildlife!
The negative side to Spring is that with all that greenery and blooming flowers can come allergies! Claritin or Zyrtec can do wonders if you’re just visiting. I personally have really bad allergies and last year I got an allergy shot for the first time. This was cheaper and more effective than the pills but requires a quick doctor visit. If you are moving to Oregon and have seasonal allergies I would recommend looking into the shot instead of the over-the-counter pills, but if you’re only visiting then Claritin or Zyrtec will do the trick!
☀️ How Hot Are Roseburg Oregon Summers?
Summertime in Roseburg Oregon brings with it hot days with highs averaging between 80-90 degrees, and warm nights with lows typically hovering around the mid-60s. Rainfall remains relatively light during this season, though there may be occasional thunderstorms throughout July and August.
By mid-July, the hills turn from green to brown until towards the end of the year with little rainfall during the late summer months.
Roseburg has a moderate enough climate that I went years without even having an AC and just opened my windows at night. But with days averaging between 80-90 degrees, you’re going to wish you had AC by the end of the summer! We do get a heat wave or two usually in late August where temperatures get up to 100 degrees or more for a week or so. But these heat waves usually only happen once or twice a year and typically don’t last more than a handful of days.
Another thing our summer season has brought in recent years is what many on the West Coast are calling smoke or fire season. I’m born and raised here in Roseburg and this was never an issue growing up in the last 30 or so years, but in the last handful of years, it has been fairly common to have weeks of smoky air towards the end of summer. I believe this is mostly due to the drought we’ve had, but my understanding is that the smoke is much worse on the other side of the pass once you get to Southern Oregon areas such as the Grants Pass, Medford, and Ashland area, as their climate is quite a bit drier than ours here in the Umpqua Valley and north and the CA fires smoke is less likely to make its way to us.
🌧️ Average Rainfall In Roseburg Oregon
If you’re considering a move to Roseburg, Oregon you may have heard about our rainy days. But how much does it really rain in Roseburg?
As far as precipitation goes, expect rain year-round with an average of 138 days per year of measurable rainfall. That said, most days are still sunny and clear, especially during the summer months. Mornings can be foggy or overcast with the skies clearing up by 11 am – 12 pm most days.
The Average: According to the National Weather Service, Roseburg averages around 36 inches of precipitation per year —which puts it slightly above the national average. The wettest months are typically November through January, with very little rain June through September.
Roseburg does get more than its fair share of rain mostly during winter and early spring, it still has plenty of sunny days throughout the year that make up for it!
🍁 Fall Weather In Roseburg Oregon
Fall (September-November) brings cooler temps as well as an increase in rainfall after the dry summer months. Average low temps drop back down into the 40s while highs remain in the 60-70 degrees range until late October or early November when they begin their descent towards winter temperatures again.
The days are still mostly sunny but there can be some foggy mornings due to large temperature differences between night and day.
Autumn is my personal favorite time of the year and a great time to visit Roseburg. Temperatures cool down to sweater weather, the leaves change color, and it is an absolutely beautiful time to live here in Roseburg Oregon!
